How to correct birthplace in the passport? will late registration do? will it be accepted?

i have applied my passport over 20 years ago and since my grandfather have miss spelled my surname with my first birth certificate, my mother filed for a late registration. but still i need a passport right away and have opted to resort in using fake birth certificate. please help.
