Period question: is this bad?

Its perfectly normal. Especially if you have only had your period for a short time. It can take up to adulthood to regulate, what with hormones and all. Also, 24-40 is the AVERAGE, mine comes every 35-40 days and that's just how my body is. If yours comes earlier, thats just how you hormones are balanced. I hope I helped :)
